Top 6 Team Building Strategies
Team building techniques or team building strategies can make or break any corporate teambuilding activity. This is why every team building program should be carefully thought of before its implementation.
A corporation or any organization is made up of different people with diverse educational attainment, work experiences and even personalities. The proper choice of team building strategies is thus necessary to get the employees to immerse themselves and really participate in the activities.
A company that seeks to get the most of its teambuilding program should consider the following strategies:
Creative teambuilding program-A teambuilding program design should be prepared ahead of time to make sure that every activity included in the program reflects the objectives and principles of the company. While the activities should be fun and exciting, the project design should also consider the main objective of the program and that is to deepen the participants' knowledge of the company as well as their teambuilding skills. Venue-The venue determines the environment within which the teambuilding activities will be staged. Choose a venue as far away from the office (or from civilization in general) to discourage participants from doing their regular activities or even from stepping out of the sessions. In some cases, a remote venue will be more expensive than a one near the office or the downtown area but it pays in the end. Get an effective facilitator-The facilitator will determine the mood of the teambuilding sessions. A facilitator who can get the attention of the participants will make sure that no extra and unnecessary activities will be done while the activities are going on. A boring facilitator will only make the event a flop. Invest in creative materials-The materials to be used in the teambuilding activity need not be expensive; in fact, they need not cost anything at all. However, the project manager should be creative enough to use existing office materials and equipment to cut back on costs. Papers, DVDs, video recorders and other materials can be brought to the location of the teambuilding activity. Encourage mass participation-The teambuilding sessions are basically for the employees or members of the organization so it should be made sure that a hundred percent participation is obtained. This applies to both the total attendance and their actual participation during the activities. Even the very shy people should be encouraged to let go of their inhibitions and do what it takes to help their team win! Some people can be shy in the office but they act different once placed in a different environment. Some people may be timid in the office but they can be very good team players given the chance. Evaluation-Every activity should be evaluated at the end of the day to quantify the benefits that the participants got from the various sessions. The participants can also make suggestions to improve future teambuilding activities. These are the basic strategies which a teambuilding manager can observe to make sure that the program is a success. You will never find a perfect team building strategy as nothing is ever perfect, but one can always try and the only way to make the next teambuilding activity better is to get the feedback of the participants themselves.
